| Title | Plastics - Determination of puncture impact behaviour of rigid plastics - Non-instrumented impact testing |
| Scope | This international standard specifies methods for the determination of puncture-impact properties of rigid plastics in the form of flat test specimens, such as discs or square pieces, under defined conditions. Specimens may be moulded directly, cut from sheets or taken from finished products. Different types of test specimens and test conditions are defined. |
| Comment | Recently, the trend has been to test plastics, reinforced and unreinforced, in the falling weight or falling dart test using either Part 1 (un-instrumented) or Part 2 (instrumented) of ISO 6603. For composites, when tested on the 40 mm diameter support, the failure can be limited and influenced by the proximity of the edge of the support ring. The 100 mm diameter support added during the latest revision in 1997 is much less likely to influence the failure. This difference in failure behaviour also applies to unreinforced plastics. |
